It seemingly marks the second round of cuts at the studio this year.

U.S.-based indie studio ProbablyMonsters is making layoffs once again.

Multiple employees shared and corroborated the news on LinkedIn. One person noted their four-year run at the studio has now come to an end and described the cuts as "company-wide layoffs."

Two others, a producer and software engineer, also confirmed they had been laid off.

The news comes just over two months after ProbablyMonsters launched Crimson Moon,  a melee-based action RPG that has so far been met with mixed user reviews on Steam.

In a letter to players shared on October 1, the studio acknowledged that Crimson Moon debuted in a poor state on September 1 and apologised to players who'd been encountering performance issues.

"First, I want to acknowledge something we’ve been open about since launch: September 1 didn’t go the way we wanted it to," reads the post.

"Too many of you encountered bugs, crashes, progression issues and other problems that got in the way of the experience we wanted you to have. We know that was frustrating, and I want to personally thank everyone who’s been sticking with us while we worked to make things right."

ProbablyMonsters reportedly laid off a number of employees in February (thanks Game Developer). It also made cuts across both 2025 and 2024 after winding down some projects.

When confirming a layoff round in February 2025, the company said it was still focused on "creating a sustainable environment where our developers can thrive."
