United Videogame Workers-CWA has launched the Game Worker Employment Survey to gather and share data that could prove invaluable in the fight for more equitable working conditions across the video game industry.

The survey is open to all game workers in the United States and Canada, irrespective of their current employment status. The goal, as noted by UVW-CWA on Bluesky, is to "chart a better understanding of employment and compensation in our industry so that unions and organizers can create better standards of pay."

Notably, UVW-CWA stressed it is not illegal or against company policy to discuss wages with peers across the industry. Even so, it noted the survey is anonymous.

"Transparency is actually a legally protected right that prevents inequality and ensures equity. Everyone deserves fair pay. So help us make that a reality," said the union.

UVW-CWA is a 'direct-join' union that represents workers across the United States and Canada, as opposed to a single workplace. It's a structure that means anybody interested in joining simply needs to fill out an application form and pay their dues (a minimum of $15 or 1 percent of annual income).

Since breaking cover at GDC 2025, UVW-CWA has welcomed over 550 members into the fold (thanks Game Developer). The union was established to push for better working conditions across the video game industry.

"We demand an industry free of harassment, with fair hours, fair pay, and not to be discarded at the whim of shareholders," reads a call to action on the UVW-CWA website. "We are not disposable, and our work should be respected. We, the workers, are not outnumbered—we're just not organized. Yet. Let's change this industry, together."
