It's currently unclear how many people have been laid off.
Eternal Strands developer Yellow Brick Games is downsizing. LinkedIn posts from multiple impacted employees indicate the Canadian studio—which has offices in Quebec and Montreal—has laid off a number of employees assigned to both locations.
"Well, today wasn’t the update I was hoping to share, I’m now part of the layoffs at Yellow Brick Games," wrote a software programmer based in Quebec.
Another worker based in Toronto explained they were also impacted by "recent changes" at the studio. One person who worked remotely said they were laid off by Yellow Brick one year after they joined the company.
Yellow Brick was established in 2020 by a cohort of industry veterans including former Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw. He was joined by Thomas Giroux, Jeff Skalski, and Frédéric St-Laurent B, who previously worked at notable studios such as Ubisoft, Electronic Arts and BioWare.
According to the studio website, Yellow Brick employed around 60 people after expanding beyond its headquarters in Quebec City into Montreal, including some remote workers around the globe.
The studio's debut title, Eternal Strands, launched in January 2025 to warm reviews, with many praising the fantasy adventure's systemic approach to magic.
Eternal Stands launched onto platforms including PlayStation 5, Steam, And Xbox Series X | S. It was also made available on Xbox Game Pass as a day-one release.
