GDC Festival of Gaming is condensing its schedule to become a four-day event in 2027.

Event organiser Informa (previously the employer of this reporter) said the pivot to four days from five is a "deliberate step toward creating a higher quality, more focused and more valuable experience."

The annual game industry conference previously ran Monday through Friday but will now be winding down on Thursday.

"Having explored the data and listened to our community, we’re concentrating programming and opportunities during the days when the community is most active, while making it easier for attendees to balance their time at GDC with their professional and personal commitments," reads a post on the GDC website.

The decision comes after attendance declined by 30 percent in 2026, with the inaugural 'Festival of Gaming' event attracting 20,000 people—down on the 30,000 people who turned out in 2025 (although that figure also included GDC Nights attendees).

Last year, multiple international developers told Aftemath they would be skipping the San Francisco conference with the United States becoming "increasingly hostile" to foreign nationals under U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Informa, those who do choose to attend in 2027 will be treated to "robust conference programming, larger session rooms, more hands-on workshops, interactive experiences, and expanded networking" over four days.

The Business Hall at Moscone West will offer dedicated meeting and dealmaking space Monday through Thursday, while conference programming will also be spread across all four days. The Festival Hall in Moscone South will be accessible from Tuesday to Thursday.

GDC Festival of Gaming 2027 will take place from March 1 to March 4 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
