Claude maker Anthropic lost over $80 billion during the first half of the current fiscal year—significantly more than the $13 billion loss it recorded over the same period last year.

For context, that amount of cash is more than [Activision Blizzard](https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2023/10/13/xbox-activision-blizzard/?ref=verticalslice.news) ($68.7 billion) and [Bungie](https://sonyinteractive.com/en/press-releases/2022/sony-interactive-entertainment-to-acquire-leading-independent-videogame-developer-bungie/?ref=verticalslice.news) ($3.6 billion) cost Microsoft and Sony combined. Or, to present the figure another way, you could use that cheddar to produce indie darling *Peak* around 400,000 times over. The title, [according to Game Developer](https://www.gamedeveloper.com/production/how-co-op-climbing-hit-peak-achieved-2-million-sales-for-less-than-200-000-?ref=verticalslice.news), had a budget of around $200,000.

As reported by [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2026/10/20/anthropic-loses-80bn-six-months/?ref=verticalslice.news) and other outlets, Anthropic said the loss was largely the result of accounting adjustments linked to financing agreements. Although, the U.S. corporation is also struggling to contain rising costs and spent $9 billion on computing capacity across the first half of the year, which is more than it spent across the entirety of 2025\.

Claude is currently being used by a number of notable publishers and engine makers within the video game industry, including Assassin's Creed maker Ubisoft. Multiple job listings on the Ubisoft website—including those for a '[Prompt Specialist](https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/company/careers/search/744000148784039-prompt-specialist-m-w-nb-?ref=verticalslice.news)' and '[Senior Data Analyst](https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/company/careers/search/744000155707009-senior-data-analyst?ref=verticalslice.news)'—note that applicants must have an understanding of several generative AI tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude.

Engine maker Unity, [which recently unveiled a prompting-platform called Unity Spark](https://www.verticalslice.news/unity-opting-asset-store-creators-into-new-generative-ai-platform-by-default/), has also [released an official plugin](https://claude.com/marketplace/plugins/unity?ref=verticalslice.news) for Claude Code that "ships curated skills for game development, monetization, and performance optimization."

[According to a recent Bloomberg report](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-10-12/epic-games-delays-disney-project-asks-developers-to-use-more-ai?ref=verticalslice.news), *Fortnite* maker Epic Games is also demanding staff implement an "AI first" production model using tools like Claude in order to ship a delayed Star Wars project.

The [2026 State of the Game Industry](https://gdconf.com/article/gdc-2026-state-of-the-game-industry-reveals-impact-of-layoffs-generative-ai-and-more/?ref=verticalslice.news) report indicated that around 36 percent of industry professionals are using generative AI tools, but noted more than half feel it will have a negative impact on the sector.

Anthropic is currently preparing to go public next month, but The Telegraph claims investors are skittish and may cut the company's valuation by $500 billion to a meagre $1.5 trillion. The generative AI firm generated $16.3 billion in revenue during the first half of the year.
