# Update: Schell Games confirms it has laid off 49 of employees

**Update:** In a statement to Vertical Slice, Schell Games confirmed it has laid off 49 employees in "across the board" cuts, representing around 40 percent of its workforce.

**Original story:** Full-service game studio Schell Games has made its second round of layoffs in three months.

The company confirmed the news in a [post on LinkedIn](https://lnkd.in/p/evS%5FPZ3B?ref=verticalslice.news) where it said a "significant number" of people have been jettisoned to "ensure a sustainable future."

"While this will enable us to stay stable moving forward, it is incredibly painful as we are losing some fantastic talent," reads the statement. 

[Another LinkedIn post](https://lnkd.in/p/eYXgZ7%5F2?ref=verticalslice.news) from a worker impacted by the cuts suggests that dozens of people have lost their jobs. 

The Pittsburgh studio claims to have over 150 team members on its '[About](https://schellgames.com/about?ref=verticalslice.news)' webpage. It's unclear when that figure was last updated. 

It previously laid off an undisclosed number of employees in August ([thanks, Game Developer](https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/report-among-us-3d-dev-schell-games-lays-off-staff?ref=verticalslice.news)), reportedly the first time the company has eliminated jobs since it was founded in 2002\. 

A specialist in VR titles, Schell Games has worked on notable releases such as *I Expect You To* Die and *Among Us 3D*. 

Vertical Slice has approached the company for comment.
