Popular user-generated content (UGC) platform Roblox is doubling down on generative AI technology to usher in the supposed "future of gaming," but [shares are falling](https://uk.investing.com/news/earnings/roblox-shares-fall-as-user-growth-and-guidance-miss-expectations-4943226?ref=verticalslice.news) after the company reported a decline in daily activity users.

Let's take a look at the key figures in the company's [latest fiscal report](https://s27.q4cdn.com/984876518/files/content%5Ffiles/Q3-2026-Earnings-Shareholder-Letter.pdf?ref=verticalslice.news) before we dig into the meat. The average number of daily active users (DAUs) on Roblox declined by 9 percent year-on-year to 138 million during Q3 FY26\. Hours engaged also dipped by 15 percent to 34 billion.

Revenue increased by 16 percent to $1.57 billion over that same period, but bookings (an indicator of future growth) dropped by 12 percent to $1.7 billion—although Roblox noted that bookings still surpassed the high-end of its guidance range.

Looking ahead, the company expects DAUs to continue falling between Q3 and Q4 based on "seasonal" trends.

Earlier this year, Roblox said implementing new safety measures such as age-verification has impacted content discoverability and communication between players.

"What we have observed since we started rolling out age-gating of communications features in January is less communication engagement on the platform," [CFO Naveen Chopra told ‌Reuters in April 2026](https://www.reuters.com/technology/roblox-slashes-annual-bookings-forecast-new-safety-features-take-their-toll-2026-04-30/?ref=verticalslice.news). "That does tend to have some knock-on effects in terms of content virality, which can then impact things like App Store ratings and the like."

On the subject of user safety, Roblox ([which continues to face litigation for allegedly failing to protect young users](https://uk.investing.com/news/earnings/roblox-shares-fall-as-user-growth-and-guidance-miss-expectations-4943226?ref=verticalslice.news)) said 64 percent of global DAUs had completed an age check by the end of Q3, including more than 80 percent of DAUs aged 13 to 17\.

"In key markets like Australia, the U.S. and the U.K., age-check penetration of total DAUs reached 80 percent, 75 percent and 75 percent, respectively," added the company.

Roblox claims that around 30 percent of US teenagers aged between 13 to 17 currently use the platform daily. The company is now focused on attracting more users over the age of 18 (O18), who it believes can be more effectively monetised.

"O18 users monetize 50 percent + above U18 users; as we grow our O18 audience, we expect overall monetization will improve," it said.

## Roblox eager to capitalise on generative AI "explosion" by porting en masse

Specifically, Roblox claims the generative AI "explosion" will propel its expansion within the O18 bracket by allowing it to port any existing console, PC, or mobile game onto Roblox via a 'Universal Player' initiative.

Universal Player is described by the company as a program that will leverage generative AI to "seamlessly import any existing game into the Roblox cloud platform while transforming it to run multiplayer, on any device (at the upper edge of the device’s performance capabilities), with instant join, instant UGC updates, local 3D, and access to Roblox services for discovery, safety, communication, and monetization."

Roblox said it has been "embracing" generative AI to accelerate creation since the release of the Roblox Studio Assistant in December 2023\. The impact? Over the past month, over 80 percent of the top 100 games on Roblox used generative AI tools in some form. The number of daily asset uploads to the Roblox cloud have also tripled month-over-month.

"Since Q2, time spent using AI tools (including Build, Studio Assistant, and external AI via MCP) tripled among our top creators, and those using our MCP server daily grew nearly 5x. In Q3, *Break and Steal an Egg* and *Huss Valley* were both created almost entirely with AI and both broke into the Roblox top 20 (ranked by concurrent players)," added the company.

"Build is our new prompt-to-game creation tool. Since its alpha launch in New Zealand, Singapore, Serbia and Thailand, more than 500,000 users have used Build—and have published over 70,000 games."

With AI-made content surging, Roblox said it has tweaked its recommendation and search algorithms to surface "high-quality" experiences and bury "AI slop."
